Annette Funicello, then 13 years old, was spotted by Walt Disney in an amateur show called Swan Lake performed in Fullerton California. Her Mickey Mouse Club teammates were furious after Funicello joined her cast later in season one of the show and without needing to be auditioned for. However, Disney's impulses proved correct as she swiftly was the most sought-after performer on The Mickey Mouse Club and was featured in her own tale Adventures in Dairyland. It was soon clear that Funicello required records in order to exploit her potential as a teen singer, and even though Annette wasn't very enthusiastic about her ability to sing, Disney engaged established arranger Tutti Camerata, who would guide her career as an artist on the recording. Funicello began to enjoy recording albums and worked together with Camerata who was among the only forty-something arranging professionals of the time, and who understood the foundations of early music. Annette Sings Anka is the album that marked the beginning of her growth. This was possibly the very first rock-song LP. Funicello was the lead in Beach Party, one of five films about beach parties which were hugely successful. The majority of the time, they were co-starring Frankie Avalon, these films are made by AIP However, the scripts of every film were personally reviewed and approved by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's clear image.
